Quick Review
The 2012 Audi A1 is definitely one of the most popular supermini-class cars out there. With a reputation for having high quality, luxurious build and reliable, but slightly boring, performance. But seeing as it comes with a higher price-tag than most of its competition, is the Audi A1 worth the extra investment?
First off, anyone comparing the newest 2012 model to last year’s offering isn’t going to find any drastic improvements. Aside from some new transmission options and reduced CO2 emissions from the 1.4 litre engine, the real additions are to be found in new optional extras and a brand new range of exterior colors.
Luckily for Audi, even the standard model A1 is hands down the best built supermini out there. This is a car that looks expensive; the interiors are luxurious and the car has a pleasingly full-bodied feel to it. The materials and design feel like they’re from a higher range Audi.
Where the A1 is likely to let you down a little is your driving experience. It’s well known that the Audi lacks the agility and sheer fun of a Mini. But while this is a car without much character, that’s not to say it under performs. It’s the quietest running supermini out there, with great visibility and sharp steering. The A1 makes a great town car and it’ll handle the roads well. Just don’t expect to be amazed.
So, the A1 is a solid, luxurious car, but is it right for you?
Well, if you’re looking for a family car, this isn’t too bad for a smaller model. It’ll sit 4 adults comfortably and the 270 litre boot will handle most situations. Realistically though, this is a car for urban buyers willing to pay a little extra for high-quality.
