Toyota’s Sustainable Mobility and Carbon Neutrality joins hands with UAE’s COP28

The United Arab Emirate’s commitment to the Conference of the Parties (COP), which is integral to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has been worked upon with absolute focus. For those who are unaware, COP was first established in 1995 as an international climate summit. The UAE’s version of this is known as COP28, which will be presented to those attending the COP28 UAE at Expo City in Dubai, lasting from November 30 – December 12, 2023.

When it comes to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and its plans for the future of mobility, the Japanese auto giant has a goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The UAE government is hoping to cut overall emissions by 43% by 2030, which goes to show the nation’s commitment to improving its footprint in the global space.

Experts are aiming to cap worldwide warming to around 1.5 degrees Celsius, with major automakers like Toyota taking these concerns really seriously. As consumers get more and more aware (and conscious of their carbon footprint), they want more eco-friendly cars. Starting with the Toyota Prius, which was the first Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) that was mass-produced. Also, with the Prius, the Japanese brand pioneered eco-friendly vehicles for the masses. Interestingly, Toyota has sold well over 20 million electrified cars since 1997.

Toyota understands that one approach to achieving carbon neutrality will not work well for each and every market in the world. This might range from differing approaches to vehicle technologies, economic circumstances, energy sources, and infrastructure readiness – all of these factors being increasingly impactful. By 2030, Toyota Motor Corporation is aiming to have 30 BEVs in its global line-up. According to Toyota, this number will include both passenger and commercial models. The Japanese brand is aiming to have an annual sales figure of 3.5 million units within the end of this decade, which takes into account 1.5 million electrified vehicles in the next 3 years – accounting for around 10 BEVs. Toyota also wishes to accomplish a reduction in its CO2 emissions by over 30% by 2030, while reaching to lose 50% in its carbon emissions by 2035.

The brand has even established a brand-new factory in May 2023 under its “ALL in ONE TEAM” initiative. This will ensure that Toyota concentrates on EVs that will likely form the future of the brand, by focusing on product development, manufacturing, and overall business operations.

Toyota is also channeling its resources into researching and developing hydrogen factories, with the brand ensuring there’s localization in major markets to reduce overall costs and striving to achieve cost-effective fuel cells. Toyota is aiming to launch one of its first hydrogen facilities in 2026, which will not only employ advanced technologies but also rope in high-efficiency production processes and low power consumption.
