Mitsubishi is one of the oldest car companies to have been selling cars in the Middle East, and the Japanese auto major has had several popular and well-liked cars. Presently, Mitsubishi Motors has 9 models on sale in the UAE, with at least four of them being crossovers/SUVs. Considering how important these vehicles are, it is no wonder that well over half of Mitsubishi cars sold in the UAE consist of SUVs.

One of the most affordable cars in Mitsubishi’s line-up in the UAE is the Mitsubishi ASX, while one of its most popular models is the family-oriented Mitsubishi Outlander. Even though the two cars are slotted at different price points, both can be viewed as competitive options within their respective segments. Browsing through YallaMotor, you can find the best cars for sale in UAE, cheap used cars in Dubai, and even new car prices in Dubai.

Exterior

As mentioned above, there really is no direct competition between the Mitsubishi ASX and the Mitsubishi Outlander – this applies to their respective physical dimensions as well. The Mitsubishi ASX measures 4,365 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and up to 1,645 mm in height. Understandably, the Mitsubishi Outlander is larger – 4,710 mm in length, 1,897 mm in width, and 1,745 mm in height. The ASX gets 18-inch alloy wheels while the Outlander is shod with larger 20-inch wheels.

When it comes to the way these two cars look, their front ends have a few things in common. For example, both feature Mitsubishii’s easily distinguishable and iconic Dynamic Shield front fascia with shiny chrome and piano black inserts. Both cars also have their front light sets neatly tucked into the bumper, with a set of LEDs located right under the hood. The Outlander gets more LED lights under the primary units, while both score faux front skid plates.

The rear designs of the ASX and Outlander are significantly different, with the former looking compact and cute, while the latter is bigger and looks far more squarish. The ASX gets a small roof-mounted spoiler, though the Outlander’s larger spoiler definitely catches one’s attention better. The rear bumper of the ASX looks sportier, while that of the Mitsubishi Outlander looks pretty restrained. The taillight design of the Outlander looks more contemporary, but the ASX’s unit still features a stylish LED running light.

The overall styling of the Mitsubishi ASX will appeal to those who want a compact urban runabout with a hint of modernity splashed around here and there. As for the Mitsubishi Outlander, much of its appeal comes from its size advantage over the ASX – the bigger the footprint, the better the street credibility.

Interior and Features

It is on the inside of these two cars that we get to see the major differences that separate one from the other quite distinctively. The Mitsubishi ASX interior is simple and functional, with well-placed buttons and large, easy-to-use dials and displays. There is faux leather upholstery covering the seats and also some portions of the center console, while paddle shifters and shiny trim certainly make this interior look a touch more expensive than it is.

Compared to the ASX, the interior of the Mitsubishi Outlander is undeniably a more premium and comfortable cabin to be in. It has been crafted keeping Omotenashi in mind, which basically translates to “Japanese hospitality.” The new Outlander’s interior can be had with striking-looking dual-tone colors, high-quality leather upholstery with contrast stitching, and a thoroughly modern-looking dashboard design. Catering to that sense of opulence are fancier design details and metallic trim, plus dual digital displays.

The compact size of the ASX’s cabin means that it does not feel as spacious as that of the Outlander, but there is room for five people. However, the rear bench will start feeling a tad tight on longer journeys with three adults there, and six-footers might find the headroom at the back lacking. The Mitsubishi ASX does house a lot of hard plastic trim, which is mixed with certain comforts like cupholders, a panoramic glass roof, heated front seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and a 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system.

Of course, considering that it is a part of a higher class of vehicles, the Mitsubishi Outlander’s equipment list is far more impressive. The new Outlander gets multi-mode keyless entry with push-button start, adaptive cruise control, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, power-folding door mirrors with position memory & auto-tilt, 8-way adjustable front seats with power lumbar & massaging functions, three-zone climate control, a head-up display, a wireless charger, Android Auto & wireless Apple CarPlay, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 9-inch infotainment system.

Engine and Performance

The Mitsubishi ASX in the UAE is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 148 hp and 197 Nm of torque. Transmission chores are handled by a CVT that can mimic a 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the ASX can be had with an iteration of Mitsubishi’s 4WD system. The Mitsubishi ASX 2.0 can go from 0-100 km/h in 11.3 seconds and hit a top speed of up to 193 km/h. It isn’t a fast car, but the ASX can cruise at 120 km/h without much struggle.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with direct injection, making 181 hp and 245 Nm of torque. The Outlander’s CVT gearbox is smooth, though there is that notable rubber-band effect that these transmissions are famous for, while there is also S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) system and six different drive modes. Considering that it is bigger and heavier than the ASX, the Outlander’s top speed of up to 191 km/h isn’t much to brag about.

Price

The price of the Mitsubishi ASX in the UAE starts from around AED 70,000 for the entry-level GLX 2WD variant, while the new Mitsubishi Outlander in the UAE likely costs from over AED 95,000. Understandably, the Outlander is much pricier than the Mitsubishi ASX – bringing with it plenty more features and comfort upgrades.
