2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L bags IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award

Introduced in the early 1980s, the Jeep Cherokee quickly established itself as a well-equipped and comfortable family SUV. While the original model was well-received, the changing market conditions necessitated a more luxurious model, which materialized into the Grand Cherokee come 1992. Speaking of which, clearing the stringent tests laid out by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) is no cakewalk. In fact, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L 2023 models had to undergo four crash-worthiness trials in order to bag the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award. To earn the respectable “good” grade on the IIHS crash-test scoreboard, these two Jeep SUVs underwent driver-side & passenger-side small overlap front impact, moderate overlap front impact, and side impact tests.

While the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the 5-seat Jeep Grand Cherokee both receive this final crash-test results, there is a slight caveat. These impressive “good” ratings are only applicable for cars that have been produced after March 2023 (Grand Cherokee) and May 2023 (Grand Cherokee L), respectively.
