Quick Review

If you’re looking for a well-rounded coupe cabriolet, then the Volvo C70 could be a good option. With a retractable hardtop and a comfortable ride, it has a lot to offer.

For 2012 the Volvo C70 gets some new trim levels, and an improved Bluetooth system. The C70 has Volvo’s trademark comfortable and efficient interior. With the roof down, there’s space in the back for two adults, but this might be a bit cramped with the cover on. Conversely, with the roof up, boot space is good – but with it down, it only offers minor storage.

Driving the C70 is a pleasant experience with a civilized ride, but offers little sportiness in the way of grip and responsive steering. There’s also body roll through the corners - however, it’s a good motorway cruiser. With the roof up the cabin is quiet, and with it down the breeze is controlled well.

The 2.5 L petrol engine is the most powerful on offer, giving 230 bhp. Though it offers a smooth and great sounding drive, it has limited fuel economy, managing 6.7 L / 100 Km. This makes it an expensive car to run within its segment.

Compared to its rivals, the C70 is solid. The Audi A5 and the BMW 3 Series offer greater refinement and a more expensive feeling interior. However, the C70 is still cheaper than both. It’s also quite practical when measured up with the Infiniti G37 and the Lexus IS C.

Overall, though there are other choices that might be worth a look, but the C70 is still a well-balanced car with both style and substance.
