 The Toyota FJ Cruiser is an affordable SUV. New for 2012 is a single new exterior paint color, available with the Trail Teams Special Edition Package. There are no other changes for 2012.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is based on the same platform as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado -- incredibly popular in Middle Eastern markets. It drops the Prado's sleek exterior for something more jeep-like and utilitarian, but still good-looking. The FJ cruiser uses the same 4-litre V6 engine as the Prado, delivering 270bhp at 5600rpm and 380Nm of torque at 4400rpm. The FJ Cruiser's interior isn't plush, but it's comfortable and has an appealingly simple design. The FJ Cruiser has serious off-road capabilities, but also functions very well on the highway as a daily driver. It's one of very few SUVs that are available with a manual transmission. On the downside, the FJ Cruiser is much more basic than most; it doesn't even offer a navigation system.

The Jeep Wrangler has even better off road chops than the FJ Cruiser, and has more available configurations and options. The Nissan Xterra is also very affordable; it's more compact than the FJ Cruiser, which gives you less space but lets you navigate narrower spaces. 

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a good choice for the budget shopper who doesn't need high-end extras, but who needs a capable off roader.

The FJ Cruiser isn't a luxurious ride, but it's comfortable. It handles well, giving you a satisfying driving experience both on the highway and off.
