Quick Review
As you would expect with a car so fresh off the drawing board, there isn’t a huge amount of evolution to be seen in the new 2013 Kia Cadenza, but there is still a lot to talk about the Korean manufacturer’s flagship model.
The exterior is sleek yet understated, and the same notes continue to the interior, which shows some modern and restrained design touches. It may lack the overall finish quality to be found in the Mercedes E Class, but the Cadenza cockpit remains a pleasant and well equipped place to be. The comfortable ride, combined with the excellent stereo and innovative double sun-roof, all contribute to a pleasant driving experience.
There is only one engine choice on offer, the 3.5L V6 ‘Lambda’, which combines smooth acceleration with an impressive 290 brake horsepower at 6600 rpm. As a result of the front wheel drive configuration, the steering doesn’t feel quite as responsive as the BMW 5-Series through the corners, but the Cadenza still remains a very fun car to drive.
While the Kia badge may not have much cachet in the luxury car market, they are already beginning to make great strides with the Cadenza. If money is no objection then the automatic choice still lies with the big German marques. However, for those who are on a tighter budget, or who are simply less swayed by the name on the badge, the Cadenza already makes for a very viable alternative to entries such as the Lexus LS series.
