Quick Review

For the 2013 model year, the Indian-built Hyundai i10 has had a facelift. The exterior has been extensively restyled, especially the layout of the headlights and front grille. The interior has had a makeover too. There have been even more changes under the chassis -- all of the engines offered for the i10 will now conform to Euro 5 emissions standards, with improved fuel economy.

The Hyundai i10 struggles somewhat to compete with the rest of the light-car segment, but has plenty to recommend it. Although it's not the fastest car in its class, being outpaced by similar cars such as the and the Chevrolet Spark, it's still zippy and well-optimized for city driving. Its up-to-date good looks also help to give it a boost.

The inexpensive i10 offers good basic options at the lower end of the price scale that will appeal to budget shoppers and first-time car buyers. It comes with ABS, two front airbags and load limiters for the front seatbelts. Further high-end options are also available, including a USB port and an auxiliary jack for an iPod. Enhanced features might help Hyundai to shake off its cheap-and-cheerful image and attract drivers looking for a little extra.

The i10 is definitely a city car. It gives you a comfortable ride with good fuel economy in town and its tight turning circle allows you to navigate tricky corners easily. Out on the highway, however, its slower speeds and slower acceleration could be a drawback.
