Quick Overview

The Ford Flex has only minor changes for the 2013 model year. For Flex SEL models, Ford has dropped the turbocharged EcoBoost option, so if you want something similar you’ll need the Titanium trim or the less expensive Limited trim.

The Flex competes very well with other models in the affordable midsize SUV segment. It's one of the finest crossover models on the market, sporty enough to appeal to a younger crowd but practical enough for a family utility vehicle. It has a dramatically box-like exterior which may be an acquired taste, but looks impressively modern next to the more conventional styling of the Mazda CX-9, Chevrolet Traverse or even Nissan Murano! It’s range of gadgets beat the Mazda CX-9's navigation interface. The Flex handles a bit better than the Traverse and edges the Chevy on interior comfort and spaciousness, although at the cost of the Traverse's eighth seat (the Flex seats seven). If you really need that extra seating you might be better off with a minivan like the Honda Odyssey, but the Flex beats the Odyssey for style and handling.

The Ford Flex is a great family SUV which will also find favor with performance fans. Its modest price tag will attract budget shoppers.

The Flex offers a fun drive with agile handling for an SUV and plenty of comfort. It's a smooth ride, not too rough or bouncy, without being uninspiring. There's ample power under the hood.
