Quick Review

The 2012 Audi Q5 is a compact SUV that comes with a choice of two engines powering an All Wheel Drive system.

For their 2012 Q5, Audi have stuck with the existing formula that has been tried and tested.  There aren't any radical technical changes from the 2011 model, although Audi have introduced four new colours to choose from.

With its comprehensive safety features, the Q5 makes an excellent family car. Taller and more versatile than a wagon, the Q5 measures up favorably to other cars in its class, teaming stylish design with a solidly engineered driving experience. The exterior is well-proportioned and the interior, although simple, boasts quality materials for a luxurious feel. In normal driving conditions the rear-biased AWD Quattro system throws 60 per cent of the total engine torque at the rear wheels, and even more in slippery conditions, making this a comfortable drive even in bad weather. Road noise could be an issue, though.

Your two engine choices are the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that powers the base Q5, or the optional V6 engine. The base version gives you a solid 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque. If you want more horsepower, you can opt for the 3.2-liter V6 engine, which produces 270 hp and 330 Nm of torque. The Q5's permanent All Wheel Drive system can be teamed with a 7-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. The EPA estimated range is 7.7 km/l in the city to 11.5 km/l on the highway; the exact range depends on your engine selection.
