From a driving enthusiasts point of view, not much comes close to the Lotus Evora GT. Little else feels so at ease in transitioning from a high-speed lap around a racetrack, into a brilliant B-road blaster, or even feels so composed in everyday driving.
Lotus has subjected the Evora to a constant series of improvements throughout its life. Take the Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre V6 Engine now making 416bhp and 410Nm pf torque with the 6-speed automaticl gearbox. Forced induction brings its peak twist in at just 3,500rpm to the GT4s 5,000-6,800rpm. Resulting in the Brit sprints from 0-100 in 4.2 seconds - two tenths quicker than Porsches official time. The Evoras engine is about far more than just the bare numbers. throttle response is instant, helped by a lightweight flywheel that feels free of inertia, meaning that the Evora seems to over-deliver on its claimed figures.
Peel straight off a track, and onto the road and youd half expect that with such stunning body control itd be unbearably stiff. But that couldnt be further from the truth. Theres brilliant compliance to the way even this most extreme of Evoras rides - think of a Volkswagen Golf R in comfort mode, and you wouldnt be that far off. Theres an appreciable amount of road noise, but not enough to be particularly tiring. The cabin feels every inch that of the road-going racer, alcantara-trimmed surfaces add a sense of purpose.
