Quick Overview

The Volkswagen Golf is a premium hatchback for those who want something small, easy to maintain and want a little more refinement in everyday driving. For 2014, the VW Golf has undergone major tweaks and remains an exciting piece of machinery that is fun to drive. Despite looking a bit conservative and understated, it is still a proper car with plenty to offer. Its main rivals include the Audi A3, Ford Focus and the Renault Clio.

The VW Golf is a pioneer of the premium hatchback, renowned for its class leading handling and driving pleasure. The 2014 VW Golf is no different, despite looking slightly drab in standard trim, it still retains the essence that made the Golf so much fun. Sitting on one of the best chassis in the automotive industry, the little Golf feels nimble, agile and provides a pleasurable ride. The GTI or R models offer great performance with the Golf-R model able to achieve a 0-100 km/h of just 4.9 seconds. Available in five trim levels, all equipped with turbos and 4 cylinders, a 1.2 litre with 105 HP, a 1.4 liter with 138 HP or a 2.0 litre with either 220 HP in the GTI or 296 HP in the Golf-R. The latter Volkswagen GTI and Golf-R versions look properly fast, elegant and somewhat imposing with big rims and a revised body kit.

Inside, it is all typical VW; simple, logical and conservative. The cockpit wraps around the driver for a more engaging feel. Being a German engineered car, it has solid build quality and all materials used are of high quality. As a hatchback, it is fairly small but boasts one of the largest cabins in its class. Standard equipment is not much to brag about, it is pretty basic with all the necessary functions. Safety though, is very good with 6 airbags, tire pressure monitoring, brake assist and pre-collision assist.
