Quick Review

The Jeep Wrangler celebrated its seventieth birthday in 2011 and it is still one of the most popular SUVs for those who love adventure in the outdoors. The 2013 Jeep Wrangler follows the same recipe of the past few years, but with some new spices.

For the 2013 version, the Wrangler dropped its rundown 3.8-litre V6 and replaces it with this 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, which now applies to the vast majority of its range. More powerful with around 30%, providing more torque and using a new five-speed automatic transmission, the Wrangler now offers a more interesting performance.

On the consumption side, Jeep mentions figures varying from 9.5 to 10 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway, and from 12.6 to 13.4 litres per 100 kilometres in town. This is roughly a combined average consumption of about 12 litres per 100 kilometres, which is a considerable improvement over the previous model.

The Wrangler’s timeless look, undeniable robustness, full equipment and improved engine are all positive reasons for driving one. On the other hand, some of the cons include the handling, and a level of comfort that is not outstanding. But then again, since when did plush seating become a priority for the serious off-roader?

While the appearance of the Jeep Wrangler may seem like a singular one, there are actually several competitors vying for attention, including Land Rover LR2 and Ford Edge. The best point of the Wrangler is given by its outstanding off-road abilities, but if you need more interior space, it’s recommended to check out the competitive alternatives.
