Volvo Polestar models are now turbocharged

Volvo cars have always been the go-to machines for safe driving. Well, safe driving can also be termed as dull commute from point A to point B. So, Volvo has heard the cries and tied up with Polestar Racing to make more hardcore versions of their civilized city cars. These Polestar models are surprisingly very good drive and are highly underrated in the world of automobiles. Two of those models are the S60 and V60. They were launched around two years ago and have made quite a fanbase in this time.

Well, now there is good news for the Polestar fans. From the 2017 model year, both the S60 and V60 will let go of their old 3.0 inline-six engines. These six cylinder engines felt aged and consumed a lot of fuel. So, now the S60 and V60 will be powered by the new Volvo 2.0 liter engines. These small engines are equipped with both turbocharger and supercharger. This means more power and less fuel consumption. To be precise, the Polestars now produce 367 BHP and 369 lb-ft of torque. Earlier the power was 340 BHP and 346 lb-ft of torque.

This is a significant improvement. The engine is now mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Couple this with an all-wheel-drive system and the Polestars are capable of reaching from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds – down from 5.0 seconds. The top speed, however, is still limited to 250 km/h. Moreover, the engineers at Polestar have also taken off some weight from the car. The cars are now about 20 kgs lighter than before. Also, there are new set of 20” alloys, new tuning for electronic power steering and new brakes. Volvo sells about 1,500 examples of Polestar models annually – which is 750 units above the previous year. The specifications above are for the European markets only and will be slightly changed for GCC. Expect these models to be available end of this year.
