Toyota Fortuner 2016 in detail
The all-new Toyota Fortuner 2016 was recently launched by Al-Futtaim Motors in the UAE (you can read more about the launch event here). This is a completely new Fortuner and has taken about 10 years to enter its second generation. The Fortuner is a name synonymous with offroading and this new one is no less. The offroading capability of the SUV was thoroughly tested by the media in the dunes of Dubai (you can read about the desert drive here).
Coming to the car itself, the Fortuner is completely new inside and out. The exterior has been completely overhauled, and the new Fortuner now stands longer, wider and lower. The large, slanted upper grille is framed by thick chrome plating that extends around the Bi-beam LED headlamps with integrated Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The rounded upper body is decorated with chrome-plated moulding that wraps around from the sides to the back glass and is in contrast to the shape of the rear bumper, which has expanded corners.

The interior is pretty basic but well built. It features colored stitching throughout; metallic ornamentation and detailed ‘Fortuner’ script on the upper glove box release button and rear door trim ornament. In addition, to that you will find leather seats and rear entertainment system for convenience. Overall, there are no rattling sounds and the interior feels comfortable.
The new Fortuner now has a 6-speed automatic transmission which, in my opinion, seems outdated. This gearbox is mated to two engine options: a 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine which produces 164hp and 245 Nm of torque and the 4.0-litre V6 engine, which churns out 235hp and 380 Nm of torque.
The new Fortuner is available in 8 exterior colours across all Al-Futtaim Motors showrooms, with prices starting at AED 105,900 for the 2.7L EXR, and AED 127,900 for the 4.0L GXR and AED 139,900 for the top of the line 4.0L VXR.
