It has taken a significant amount of time but Mclaren is now fully focused on developing supercars and sports cars for the daily drivers. The last road legal Mclaren was the F1 and it has about two decades that Mclaren did not focus on any road car after that – well, they did develop the Mercedes SLR Mclaren but that was more of Mercedes than Mclaren. Well, things changed when the MP4-12C was out but that acted more of a launchpad for the things to come. The MP4-12C was later replaced by the beautiful 650S. But that too was a supercar and not exactly the affordable daily driver. Well, Mclaren has answered that question with the all-new 570S.

Exterior

The Mclaren 570S is a Mclaren from the moment your lay your eyes on it. This baby Mclaren, in my opinion, looks much better than its elder sibling – the 650S. The scissor door are still present which add to the character of the car. The rear end reminds me of a honey bee. Overall, the car is cute and the orange color I got to test was the scene-stealer on the road. I got pulled over by people asking about the details of the car as it wasn’t registered in UAE. So, it is definitely a looker.

Interior

The interior of the 570S is almost the same as the 650S but the overall feel is better. The ride is comfortable and the entry and exit from the car is an effortless task. Mclaren really listened to the feedback and designed the car in the way that daily drivers would be happy. Other than that the touch screen infotainment is now better to operate and the interior materials are a mix of leather and carbon fibre. In short, a well made interior with go kart seating position for your driving pleasure.

Drive

The 570s is not your typical supercar with supercar issues. No, it is Mclaren’s take on the 911 Turbo. Mclaren explicitly said that with the 570S, they are planning to increase their volume and the only way to do that was to create a cheaper – under powered version of the 650S that will be comfortable to drive everyday but will still undoubtedly be a Mclaren. It still has the 3.8 liter twin turbo engine but now it produces a ‘mere’ 562 BHP. This is basically the MP4-12C in a prettier cover. 0-100 km/h takes about 3.2 seconds and the car comes to a halt from 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds thanks to those wonderful brakes. The 570S is a blast around the corners as the car sticks to the tarmac with ease. It wants you to drive faster because once the turbo kicks in, you really feel the g-force and that is worth the money.

Verdict

If all factors taken into consideration, I would pick the 570S over the 650S. It really is a daily supercar.
