Land Rover, the moment you hear it even from a distance, you start visualising rugged terrains, snow-clad mountains, unforgiving river streams and an almost indestructible, hooligan-inspired machine which gobbles everything in its stride. The brand has become the go-to name for anybody seeking astounding off-road mettle and luxury without having to bear any compromises. The green British icon span 5 decades becoming a paragon in thoroughbred SUV manufacturing and is all set to set the stage ablaze when it reveals the spiritual successor to its flagship Range Rover which has been in desperate need of a scion.

It was an anomaly when some hazy spy shots, arousing a superfluous feeling of the car being in motion surfaced online. While everyone understood the brand wanted to be stealthy in dispersing intel on the car, we have come to know it’s a teaser for the upcoming Range Rover SUV. Despite the haziness, the car’s hunkered and athletic stance and the fact that it has neared its senescence, has made it obvious that the new  Range Rover is here and covers will be taken off on the 26th of this month through a digital unveil that will be streaming live on the company’s official YouTube page.

Before the company dazzles you with the car’s reveal, let us provide some spoilers to you about its design which is home to a generous amount of obnoxious appliques. For instance, there are two shark-fin antennas on the roof in place of a single one. However, the more polarising bit is the tail lamps which might not hold a positive prima-facie. Albeit one might take to that after a stint. However, swathed in a shade of black and with those lights illuminated, it appears to be straight out of a sci-fi movie and makes a brooding impression.

The side profile is a requiem to the outgoing model save for the fact that it now gets door handles integrated into the body to keep it in sync with the brand’s latest offerings. Crisp line with a kink at the rear to break the monotony is present but appears rather ostentatious. However, the minimalistic alloy wheels lend it a tall and muscular appeal. From slightly clearer images seen online, sleek and sharp headlamps are prominent and LR’s signature grille pattern is yet another takeaway. Rather than leaving it undisturbed, the LED lamps are mounted on the lip of the car and a strip of silver is present to add substance to its design.

If you’re an ardent Range Rover aficionado or have been constantly intrigued by the simplistic and elegant designs of cockpits of Jaguar models, the RR bows to the same trend as its interior has been contrived on those lines. A chunky 4-spoke steering wheel, a tablet like screen housing all functions, a console lying beneath it with some physical switches and a stubby gear stick to take control of things are some of the visible highlights. We wish RR recuperated the gear knob which used to pop up upon ignition and that the interior was a bit more surprising to look at. However, more details on the equipment list, its unique features and clever tomfooleries will be out on the 26th of this month.

As for the powertrain options, we can expect an electric powertrain as the JLR group plans to take the diversion and leapfrog to full electrification in the next 4 years. That said, it is unlikely if gasoline and oil-burner engine option plans would be in doldrums and we wish the lunatic 5.0-litre V8 clamors loudly once before electrification hushes it down and comes as the rescue call. Other engine options which are available currently, are expected to be available with this iteration as well for a stint.

What are your expectations from the new generation of Land Rover’s flagship and most capable SUV and do you think it will be able to live up to the legacy and hype? Let us know in the comments.
