Hyundai to introduce electric vehicle line-up by 2020

The year 2020, though far away, is going to be an interesting year to say the least. Being a leap year and beginning on a Wednesday, 2020 is going to see a number of events affecting individuals globally, including the Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the World Expo in our very own, Dubai. Adding to that list is Hyundai, with its ambitious plans to have an entire line-up of advanced electric vehicles ready by 2020.

Joining several countries and auto manufacturers across the globe in the race to provide fuel-free transportation, Hyundai along with sister companies Kia and Genesis, aims to unveil ten hybrids, eight plug-in hybrids, and two fuel-cell vehicles by the year 2020.
While the twenty model line-up may seem a little over ambitious at first, Hyundai has already taken the first step with its IONIQ range which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as the New York International Auto Show. Although the IONIQ range may only be able to cover an approximate 177 kilometers with zero-emissions at this point in time, that figure is expected to reach up to 400 kilometers with the launch of newer models.

Head of operations for Hyundai Africa and Middle East, Mike Song has said in an official statement, “There is now little doubt that alternative fuels will power the cars of the very near future, but the path from where we are now to where we need to be is still unclear. We expect the industry will progressively move towards electric power as the cleanest, most efficient option, with the biggest question now being how do we generate and store the energy for electric motors?”
Commenting on the GCC market, Song said in the statement, “In the GCC in particular we are seeing high levels of official support for electric vehicles, which is part of a wider push in the region to use renewable energy. Full electric vehicles can add value to investments being made in solar power, where recharging during daylight hours using renewable energy can create true zero-emissions motoring.”
