Headlights

Clean headlights not only give your car that showroom look but it also makes driving during late nights, misty afternoons, and rainy days easier. But since they are exposed to the elements, it’s only a matter of time before they become dull, fogged up, or turn yellowish in color. When that happens, you don’t even have to look far for a solution. The fix might just be in your kitchen or garage.

Dish Soap

This is more of a pre-fixing process for your headlights because you need to remove all dirt and debris from the surface before applying solvents or abrasive components. Else, you’ll end with headlights that look worse than before. You’ll need ordinary dish soap, a bucket of warm water, and sponge. Dish soap can cut through oil, grease, and dirt that may have accumulated on your headlights. You might be surprised on how clear your headlights are after cleaning and rinsing them.

Baking Soda

You see this kitchen aid being used in almost all DIY cleaning procedures. Mix warm water with baking soda to form a paste. Apply this mixture generously on clean headlights using the corner of a sponge. Follow up with polishing using a clean cloth in circular motion. You don’t need to apply additional pressure. The baking soda will do the cleaning for you. Keep away from paint as baking soda can scratch its surface. Wash with dish soap and water then rinse.

Toothpaste

The same ingredients that keep your teeth clean and white also has the same effect on your car’s headlights. Toothpaste actually microscopic abrasives so it acts like a rubbing compound or a high grit sandpaper. Squeeze some toothpaste directly on the headlights and spread it out while wiping in a circular motion. Continue until all the applied toothpaste has been wiped away.

Headlight Cleaning Vinegar

Vinegar

Another common item usually recommended for cleaning purposes is vinegar. But using it to clean your headlights requires a few more steps. You need to give your headlights a vinegar bath by removing them and soaking them in vinegar. This loosens dirt and debris that has been caked on your headlights. Use a soft sponge to remove the dissolved grime and then give the headlights a good wash.

Insect Spray

Insect spray doesn’t just rid of those pesky bugs. They can do wonders for your headlights too. The chemicals in insect sprays can help dissolve dirt and UV damaged plastic on the car’s headlights from the headlights’ surface. Apply with a clean cloth using a circular motion

Avocado

Now that’s a different solution altogether but avocado does possess cleaning properties. Maybe it’s with the oil content of this fruit, or the acids. Rub the avocado flesh onto the headlights’ surface then buff away using a clean cloth. Voila! Cleaner headlights!

Rubbing Alcohol Headlight Clean

Denatured Alcohol

Alcohol is another powerful solvent and can help dissolve and remove oil based dirt and grime that has accumulate on your car’s headlight. Apply conservatively using the corner of a soft rag. Repeat until you get the desired results.
