Mitsubishi logo

Mitsubishi is one of the oldest and most important companies in Japan. While it is involved in multiple industries with huge success, it is perhaps most popular worldwide for its cars. Mitsubishi is an institution in the automotive industry, and it has made more than its fair share of legendary cars over the years. Mitsubishi has one of the most recognizable logos in the business, and it has meaning that makes for a very interesting story. This article will talk about the history of the Mitsubishi logo, its origins, and its meaning.

The Mitsubishi company was established in 1873 as a maritime transportation company. It was founded by Yataro Iwasaki. The origins of the logo were a combination of 2 family crests in which Yataro belongs to the triple-oak crest of the Tosa clan and the three-tiered water chestnut leaves of the Iwasaki clan.

Combining these elements together has resulted into the now-familiar three-diamond design. There would be some minor changes here and there, and some elements were further modified to exemplify what the company stands for, but the logo’s design has remained constant for over a century.

The three diamonds in the Mitsubishi logo actually have their own meaning. These 3 stands for the 3 core values of the company: reliability, integrity, and success. In all their companies, Mitsubishi strives to achieve all of these 3 things in their products and services, which partly answers why the company has remained strong for over 100 years. They also selected red for their logo, beyond providing a strong aesthetic effect, using red represents Mitsubishi’s efforts to create confident, attractive, and thrilling products.

Mitsubishi Logo Evolution

The changes of the Mitsubishi logo over the years have been very minimal. The first logo had thinner diamonds with stems, which is an ode to the three chestnut leaves that served as the origin of the logo. The logo was further simplified later, the diamonds were made larger and the stems were removed. This resulted to the creation of the Mitsubishi logo as we know it today. It was first registered in 1914 and has remained unchanged since.

The Mitsubishi logo today is one of the most recognizable automotive logos in the world, but it stands for more than that. It represents a multinational company that has succeeded in just about every business venture imaginable. It is the best representation of a company that has grown to become among the industry giants in Japan.
