Cadillac has been on a mission to revamp its image and bring it back to the glorious days. This means changing the product strategy all together. Well, the first offering from that mindset is here and it is called the CT6. This model is the premium flagship offering and sits on top of ATS, CTS and XTS. So, it is an all-new product and needs to be tested.

Key Features:
Engine 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6
Transmission 8 speed automatic
Power 404 BHP / 540 Nm
Top Speed 250 km/h
Price AED 287000

Exterior

First things first, Cadillac hasn’t taken a 180 degree turn in design. It looks very much like a Cadillac and is instantly recognizable. There are edges and straight lines everywhere making sure the DNA is intact. The final product is classy and elegant. The rear reminds me of the Jaguar XJ but it works. The only thing which I can pinpoint to is the headlight design. For some reason, it doesn’t appeal to me that much. Probably, with time, I will get used to it. Other than that, this is a handsome brute that is longer than its competitors in the GCC and consumers will be pleased to notice that.

Interior & Safety

The interior of the CT6 is based on the same design scheme as the CTS. The test car I got had beige leather which looks much better than the black interior. There is a dash of wood on the dash and steering though the steering could do without the wooden touches. There is also perforated leather surround the 10.2” CUE system which seems out of place somehow and seems like an afterthought. Other than that, apart from some plastics, the overall interior is elegant and simple. Coming to the tech, the CT6 has safety features like BSD, RCTA, Cameras, Navigation, LDW, Collision alerts, airbags etc. Add heated/cooling seats with massage function and you have pretty comfortable cabin. The interior is spacious with decent legroom for the rear. However, the reclining seats in the rear don’t quite add up to the space and the front seat needs to be pushed ahead in order for full rear recline. The CT6 is targeted to be larger than 5-series and it is larger than that. Overall, the interior fits the price tag perfectly.

Drive

The CT6 test car I got was powered by a 3.0 twin-turbo V6 that produces 404 BHP and 540 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission. The first thing to notice is how fast the gear shifts happens once you floor it. The magnetic ride control system works well and the ride felt comfortable while cruising through the city. Moreover, the steering feels light and dynamic and the car doesn’t like a big luxury saloon – instead it feels like a 5-Series (which itself is a compliment). With the brief time I had in the car, I can safely say that the CT6 feels like a German mobile and not American.

Verdict

Cadillac has nailed it with the CT6 – especially on the price. You get more ‘car’ for the money. And, if the future models are similar to this then there is definitely glory in the days ahead.
