Bentley’s Ultimate Grand Tourer Begins Real-World Testing unveiled its ultimate grand tourer - the Batur - at the 2022 Monterey Car Week with only 18 cars going to be made and, surprise surprise, all of them are already sold out.

Now the British car manufacturer has revealed pictures of the very first Batur sporting a bespoke Purple paint job. The Purple Batur is named Batur Car #0 by the people at Bentley. The Batur #0 is part of the two prototypes set to undergo a total of 120 tests over 58 weeks as part of the carmaker’s development plan.

The Batur #0 can be seen featuring a front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser in high-gloss carbon fiber. It will be tackling a 1,553-mile (2,500-kilometer) journey starting in Germany and taking the car through Italy, France, and Spain. Culminating its European adventure, the Batur #0 will be undergoing high-speed testing.

After this bit of testing, there will be 7,500 kilometers of real-world driving before environmental testing commences. Bentley says that in “just under four weeks the car will endure 600 hours of solar loading – equivalent to five years in an Arizona desert” which will be crucial for the new sustainable materials used in the exterior components instead of carbon fiber.

The two prototypes are There will also be 100 weeks of powertrain development for the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 that produces 730 horsepower and 1,000 newton-meters) of torque and makes the Batur the most powerful Bentley ever.

The 18 owners will be able to spec their Batur as they like with materials like Scottish and Italian leather offered along with  the choice of having 3D printed 18-karat gold elements for the interior.

Paul Williams, Chief Technical Officer for Mulliner, commented: “At the start of the project it was clear that this car had to be the ultimate GT and so every element from the exterior design, engine power and hand-crafted interior has been created without compromise.

“There are a number of unique features that bring new challenges. Even small details such as the angle of the diamond in the front grille representing the cylinder angle in the W12 engine have had to be considered. And even though there will only be 18 Baturs produced, the level of quality has to be identical to every one of the 15,000 cars Bentley is currently producing each year.”
