Hyundai Elantra

It was only with the launch of the fifth-generation Hyundai Elantra in late 2010 and early 2011, that the brand and its compact sedan got credible, positive inputs. Thanks to its revolutionary Fluidic design language and aggressive pricing, the 2019 Elantra helped catapult the Koren marque to new-found heights. And when the all-new, sixth-generation Elantra went on sale in 2016, it featured an even more modern Fluidic design language (version 2.0), plus came with even better build quality and features equipment. However, the carmaker’s stellar pricing strategy continued to remain an invaluable forte, along with increasing levels of reliability and market share. In short, you could say that the Hyundai Elantras of today are rather good cars.

One of the biggest positives of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra was undoubtedly its striking-looking exterior. Brandishing Hyundai’s latest Fluidic 2.0 design, this C-segment family sedan benefited hugely from its pleasing proportions and head-turning styling. The front fascia wore the automaker’s famed “cascading grille” which was accompanied by some suave headlights with their projector units, svelte LED daytime-running lights, and prominent foglight housings in the front bumper. The sweeping side profile of the Elantra looks quite elegant with its sloping roof, attractive alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, and bold character lines. The rear looks noticeably sporty with the inclusion of a distinctive bootlid spoiler, large wraparound taillights, and a well-sculpted bumper. Compared to the stale and underwhelming design of the Chevrolet Cruze from its day, the Hyundai Elantra surely stands out.

Even better, Hyundai didn’t just stop with the exterior design of the 2019 Elantra, but also went around updating the interior as well. Gone was the clinical appeal of the old car, now replaced by a modern interior with a dual-tone effect, a driver-oriented center stack, better build quality, and improved materials. This significantly helped in elevating the Elantra’s cabin appearance and its sense of sophistication, relatively speaking. Hyundai’s engineers also equipped this iteration of the Elantra with more sound-deadening materials to better insulate the occupants from noise, vibration, and harshness. The result was remarkable as the cabin was now quieter than before, and with its improved packaging, it also felt roomier than before. Safe to say, the Hyundai Elantra came packed to the gills with interesting features and equipment which included automatic xenon headlamps, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, an electrically-operated sunroof, auto-closing wing mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, keyless-entry with push-button ignition, leather upholstery, heated & ventilated front seats, a leather-clad multifunction steering wheel, cooled glove box, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, and a touch-infotainment head unit with Bluetooth connectivity.

The top-spec 2019 Hyundai Elantra GLS incorporated most of the basic safety gadgets such as 6 airbags, all-around parking sensors with a rear camera, ABS with EBD and braking assist, plus a tire-pressure monitoring system. It was also a practical family car with a boot capacity of 485 liters, and scored fairly well with an average fuel economy of 7.4 L/100 km with the 2.0-liter engine. This four-cylinder petrol motor produced 150 hp and 192 Nm of torque, and came paired to a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. The 2019 Hyundai Elantra was clearly no speedster, taking a relaxed 9.5 seconds to get past 100 km/h. With having said that, its 205 km/h top speed is far from slow. If you’re in the market for a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra, I think the best and practical choice will be the GLS trim with the two-liter engine. Not only is it well-equipped with the most amount of convenience features and safety tech, but it also offers the best combination of usable daily power and decent fuel economy.
