Mitsubishi Attrage 2018

The Mitsubishi Attrage is a budget-friendly family sedan that promises hassle-free motoring and low running costs. Along with a few other regions, the Middle East gets the Attrage and its hatchback sibling, the Mirage. Even though the latter has been in production since 1978, the current generation of the Mitsubishi Attrage was only unveiled in 2013.

The 2019 Mitsubishi Attrage hasn’t really changed all that much since its first outing six years ago. Ever since its debut in the GCC, this Mitsubishi sedan has gone on to become a huge sales hit. As successful as it may be, the Attrage has to face off against the likes of the Chevrolet Aveo, Kia Rio sedan, and Peugeot 301.

Exterior

The 2019 Mitsubishi Attrage may not be the most beautiful car ever made, but it isn’t exactly terrible either. The budget-conscious sedan’s front fascia features a chrome grille with triple slats, trendy-looking headlights, a sculpted bumper with a wide air inlet and C-shaped chrome strips, flanking which are the halogen fog lamps.

The side silhouette is more about function over form, but there are a couple of character lines to spice things up a little. The small wheels, however, look awkward and the large overhangs along with the high, bubble roof doesn’t do the Attrage any style favors. The stubby boot at the rear is garnished with a chrome bar, and is flanked by curvy yet mundane taillights.

As evident, the Mitsubishi Attrage wasn’t designed to blow away minds of those walking into the showroom. However, it is a sensible design and as such, its boot has a maximum capacity of 450 liters. The 2019 Attrage is 4.245 meters long, 1.670 meters wide, 1.515 meters tall, and has a wheelbase of 2.550 meters.

Interior

Just as with the exterior, the interior design of the 2019 Mitsubishi Attrage is plain and simple. Stylish it may not be, but practical and ergonomic it certainly is. This cabin offers enough room for four adults, and five at a pinch. The high roof means headroom is good, though the narrow body doesn’t free up much shoulder room.

As expected and to bring down the price, the Mitsubishi Attrage has obviously been built down to a cost. Therefore, the material quality in the cabin is far from great and there are acres of drab, black plastic throughout. To try and break the monotonous tone of this interior, Mitsubishi has used some glossy piano black and grey plastics to achieve this. Features-wise, the 2019 Attrage can be had with 15-inch alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, power windows, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, manual air-con, remote keyless entry, and 4-speaker audio system. Safety equipment on the Attrage includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, and engine immobilizer.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Mitsubishi Attrage is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 76 HP and 100 Nm of torque. The front-wheel-drive sedan makes use of a CVT gearbox, and this coupled with the rather petite engine means that the Attrage isn’t exactly swift.

Under the right set of circumstances, the Attrage will make it to a top speed of 170 km/h, while the run from 0-100 km/h lasts a whole of 14 seconds. While outright acceleration and flat-out top speed might not be this car’s forte, its scarcely-believable fuel economy figure of 4.8L/100 km is truly best-in-class.

Verdict

Prices for the 2019 Mitsubishi Attrage range begins at AED 38,900 for the base version, and tops out at AED 45,000 for the full-option GLX trim. Depending on the trim level, insurance premium ranges between AED 1,834 to AED 1,980.
