An overview of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2019

Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The number of Sporty Sports Utility Vehicles has been on the rise for a long time. And this isn’t a trend that is going to be bucked anytime soon. The Germans have been hard at this for a long time, and this evidently motivated Land Rover join in on the fray as well. So, back in the early 2000s, the British carmaker decided to take the chassis from a Land Rover Discover, and then they lowered it, and added stiffer springs and some powerful engines into the mix. The end result, in 2005, the Range Rover Sport was introduced, and placed itself right below the flagship Range Rover.

The mid-size Range Rover Sport took the market by storm, and those who didn’t want to go with the Germans options, now had an excellent alternative. And in 2013, Land Rover launched the second-generation of the Range Rover Sport. It was now lighter, faster, more efficient, safer, and more technologically-advanced than before. Today, the new Range Rover Sport is one of the best-selling cars in its segment in the UAE, and competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne.

The 2019 Range Rover Sport looks mean, muscular, and sporty – exactly the design traits you’d want in an SUV that has the word “Sport” in its name. The front end has a clamshell hood with some pseudo vents on them, a blacked-out grille with honeycomb pattern, striking-looking LED headlights with Land Rover’s hallmark LED DRLs, and a substantial bumper with huge air intake vents.

The design highlights along the Sport’s side profile are its short overhangs, fake vents above the fenders, immense 20-inch rims, bulging wheel arches, chunky wing mirrors, and a sloping roof. The squat, lowered stance of the Sport is also visible side on. Around the back, there’s a jutting roof-mounted spoiler, large tailgate, cool wrap-around LED taillights, and a thick rear bumper with dual exhaust tips and an air diffuser. The 2019 Range Rover Sport measures 4.879 meters in length, 2.073 meters in width, 1.802 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.923 meters. Also, the Sport’s deep boot area means that it boasts a total cargo volume/capacity of 780 liters.

The cabin of the 2019 Range Rover Sport does seem more sporty and cocooned when compared to that of the regular Range Rover. The seats are of a sportier design as well, and the contrasting colors and textures add more so to the fact. The front row is just as roomy, though the rear is slightly a tighter fit in comparison to the former. Apart from that, the rest of the interior is just as posh, upscale, and contemporary in design.

The 2019 Sport’s onboard features log includes Brembo brakes, sports exhaust, adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, adaptive sports suspension, launch control, paddle shifters, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a 10-inch touch-infotainment display with navigation plus another touchscreen for the HVAC controls, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, and a Meridian premium sound system. Others include 8 airbags, active headrests, 360-degree parking sensors and camera, plus many more safety tech than I can pen down here.

Engine and performance

The beastly 2019 Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 570 hp and 700 Nm of torque. This motor channels its grunt to all four wheels via an 8-speed ZF gearbox, and can hurl the SVR to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, and on to an insane top speed of 280 km/h.
