In the tough yet successful world of pickup trucks, the legendary Ford F-150 sits at the top of the food chain. First reporting for duty way back in 1947, the Ford F-150 soon garnered high praises and gained a reputation among the masses for its toughness, reliability, and hassle-free ownership. Since 1947, Ford has been constantly working towards upgrading and modernizing their favorite pickup truck. After a dozen generations and many facelifts later, the present-day, 2019 Ford F-150 is in its thirteenth incarnation since the very first model. As famous as it might be, the Ford F-150 faces tough rivalry as buyers in this segment are enticed by other popular trucks such as the RAM 1500, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra.
There is no hiding the massive scale of the 2019 Ford F-150 and its various component parts, and that works in favor of this vehicle by adding more visual charm and appeal. The F-150’s imposing front fascia gets a thick chrome grille, long and taut hood, stylishly carved and vertically-stacked headlights, and a heavy-duty steel bumper that also houses the foglights and tow hooks.
The side profile is pretty much what you’d come expect of a pickup truck. However, the F-150’s front window design is distinctive, plus the large wing mirrors, massive ground clearance, wide and muscular fenders, and bold 20-inch alloy wheels all look cool and gives the truck a powerful stance. At the back, the F-150 gets modern LED taillights, large rear glass area with an electrically-operable window, a chunky tailgate, and a single side-facing exhaust.
The 2019 Ford F-150 measures in at 5.890 meters in length, 2.463 meters in width, 1.948 meters in height, and has a 3.670-meter long wheelbase. Depending on the cab configuration, the bed can carry up to 1,568 liters of cargo.
The interior of the 2019 Ford F-150 has come a long way from its ancient roots, and now features a modern and contemporary design. Also improved over its predecessors is the look and feel of all the items, with enough use of high-quality materials and trim to elevate the class and sophistication, inside.
The dashboard, door panels, center console etc. are padded with leather and/or squidgy rubberized plastic. The fit and finish and build quality is good, and so is the space. The vast dimensions open up plenty of room for occupants and their odds and ends, too. The 2019 F-150 comes equipped with automatic LED headlights, powered side steps, leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, an 8-inch LCD driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and a touch-infotainment display with navigation. Safety inventory includes not just standard airbags, but also inflatable seatbelts, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, all-around parking sensors with camera, and an adaptive four-wheel drive system, among others.
Engine and performance
The 2019 Ford F-150 is offered with three engines – a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6, an Ecoboost V6, or a 5.0-liter V8. The base engine generates 292 HP and 339 Nm, while the Ecoboost makes 365 HP and 570 Nm, and the eight-cylinder mill produces 360 HP and 515 Nm of torque. The F-150 gets a 10-speed automatic transmission and all but the base variant get a selectable 4WD system. The Ecoboost F-150’s top speed is 160 km/h, and 100 km/h takes 6.0 seconds.
The 2019 Ford F-150 costs from AED 168,000 to AED 273,000, and insurance costs between AED 3,780 to AED 6,143.
