Nissan Sunny 2019 Front

The Nissan Sentra has been in production since 1982, and is currently in its seventh generation. Being one of Nissan’s best-selling cars in the region, the Sentra offers competitive pricing, a spacious cabin, and long-lasting reliability, along with a very recognizable brand name. In the family lineup, the Sentra sits right in between the Sunny and the larger Altima.

The 2019 Nissan Sentra is poised to woo prospective customers away from its rivals, though that task won’t be too easy. Its rivals in the region include the just as popular Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Renault Megane, and the Volkswagen Jetta.

Exterior

The exterior design of the Nissan Sentra, though an improvement over its predecessor isn’t too exciting. Some of its rivals certainly offer a more visually-thrilling form factor. However, the latest iteration of the Sentra takes some design inspiration from the new Altima, thus making it more appealing than before. The front fascia now gets the stylish Nissan V-Motion grille, flanking which are stylishly-designed headlamps that now get striking-looking LED daytime-running lights.

The side profile isn’t the most thrilling, but designers have incorporated some smooth line and a rising window line to add some flair. The most notable things at the back of the Sentra include a pair of large wraparound taillamps and a thick chrome bar to help break the monotony. Dimensions-wise, the new Nissan Sentra measures 4.615 meters in length, 1.760 meters in width, 1.495 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.700 meters. The total volumetric capacity of the boot is a respectable 510 liters, which is just 7 liters shy of the larger Altima.

Interior

Nissan Sentra 2019 interior

Just as with the exterior, the interior of the new Nissan Sentra is pretty plain and simple. Unlike some of its rivals, this cabin isn’t designed to thrill you with fancy styling and clever technology. Despite its lack of flair, we cannot fault this cabin for its usable space, practical ergonomics, and user-friendliness. The build quality is fair enough and screwed together well too. The seats as well are fairly comfortable even for longer rides, offering decent support and cushioning.

You can have the Sentra with features such as remote keyless entry with push-button start, electric door mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, multifunction steering wheel, digital driver’s information display, 2-din music system with Bluetooth support, reverse parking sensors with camera, and a manual air-conditioning system. The standard safety features offered are dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and vehicle stability control.

Engine and performance

The Nissan Sentra is offered with two engine choices, both are petrol-fueled. The least powerful of which is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit, while the punchier one is a 1.8-liter mill. The 1.6-liter engine makes do with only 113 HP and 154 Nm of maximum torque, while the latter produces 130 Hp and 174 Nm of torque. Regardless of which engine you pick, the transmission on offer will be Nissan’s Xtronic CVT, and the driven wheels are at the front.

The Sentra with the 1.6-liter mill can make it to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds, and will run out of puff at 180 km/h. The Sentra 1.8 will do the same 0-100 km/h run in a slightly quicker 9.7 seconds, while top speed is only marginally higher at 185 km/h. However, both these engines score well on fuel economy – with figures of 6.1L/100 km and 6.9L/100 km, respectively.

Verdict

Nissan Sentra 2019 Rear

Prices for the 2019 Nissan Sentra starts at AED 59,000, while the fully-loaded 1.8-liter variant is pegged at AED 65,000. The insurance premium for the base Sentra begins at AED 1,328, as for the top variant, it starts at AED 1,463.
