Hyundai Creta 2019 Front

The Hyundai Creta is a compact crossover SUV, and was first revealed to the masses back in 2014. Named after the island of Crete - one of the largest Greek islands in the Mediterranean, the Hyundai Creta shares much of its underpinnings with the Elantra sedan. Also shared with its sleeker sedan sibling is the carmaker’s new Fluidic design language, thus ensuring that the Creta doesn’t come across as a yawn-inducing sight on the road.

Primary rivals of the 2019 Hyundai Creta come in the form of the Ford EcoSport, Renault Captur, Chery Tiggo7, and Mitsubishi ASX.

Exterior

The 2019 Hyundai Creta’s face gets a hexagonal grille, albeit a slightly smaller one when compared to the one found on its elder sibling such as the new Tucson. The large yet sleek headlamps get projector units and a thin strip of LED daytime-running lights. The bumper incorporates a faux skid plate, black plastic cladding, and vertically-arranged halogen fog lights.

The flared wheel arches, copious black body cladding, along with a raising beltline and high ground clearance, gives the Creta a bold, upright stance. The large taillights, a swooping rear tailgate design, and a meaty rear bumper with integrated air diffuser/skid plate look pretty neat.

As far as exterior dimensions are concerned, the Hyundai Creta measures 4.270 meters in length, 1.780 meters in width, 1.665 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.590 meters. With the rear bench in place, the total cargo volume is a relatively diminutive 402 liters.

Hyundai Creta 2019 Interior

Interior

The interior of the 2019 Hyundai Creta is predominantly dominated by smooth, soft lines and curves. The dashboard also gets a dual-tone color scheme to break up the monotony, and the large greenhouse area makes this cabin feel open and airy.

The cabin design ensures plenty of room for all occupants, and the seats too offer plenty of support and fair padding. Also decent is the legroom, shoulder room, and headroom – especially at the rear. Given the price point, the quality of all the switchgear and buttons are good, and their practical layout ensures good ergonomics. There are some cheap, hard plastics in this cabin, though the overall build and perceived quality is far from worse.

Some of the top features of the Creta include automatic climate control with rear AC vents, leather seats, multifunction leather-trimmed wheel, cruise control, 1 5-inch touch infotainment screen with navigation and a 6-speaker sound system, plus keyless entry with push-button start, 17-inch alloy wheels, and projector halogen headlights with LED DRLs.

The Creta’s safety gear are complemented by a backup camera with parking sensors, ABS with EBD and brake assist, 6 airbags, auto-door locks, traction and stability control, hill assist function, ISOFIX points, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Engine and performance

Powering the Hyundai Creta is a naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 121 HP and 151 Nm of peak torque. Mated to a 6-speed torque converter unit and as with most crossovers, power is directed to the front wheels. Launched from a standstill, the Creta will take an agonizing 12.1 seconds to pass the 100 km/h mark. Top speed is in the region of around 170 km/h, and given its leisurely acceleration, this crossover is best driven with a gentle right foot.

However, where the Hyundai Creta does score better is in terms of its fuel economy – going through only 7.1 liters of petrol for every 100 kilometers traveled.
