The car you see is the Cadillac CT4-V, an American rear-wheel-drive sports sedan that costs 190,000 Dirhams and goes up against cars such as the Audi S3, BMW 3-Series M Sport, and the Mercedes-AMG C43. Since the CT4-V is claimed to be one of America’s finest driver’s cars, let’s leave the pleasantries aside and take it for a spin.

Drive

Cadillac CT4

Now for those of you who aren’t quite familiar with Cadillac’s new naming structure, let me start off by telling you that the CT4 is essentially a replacement for the ATS sedan. Cadillac has stuck to similar dimensions and so the CT4 is nearly the same size, it even has the same wheelbase as the ATS but what they have added a lot more of, is power!

The standard CT4 gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, but since this is the performance-oriented “V” version, it gets a meatier 2.7-liter turbocharged engine that produces 320 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Yes, 320 horsepower and 500 Nm from a 4-cylinder engine, call it what you may, engineering marvel or simply genius, it’s mental!

All of this power is pushed through a 10-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels and I know what you’re thinking, it’s an American car, it has an insane amount of power, and it’s rear-wheel drive, so it must slide around every corner and be impossible to control, right? Wrong.

The mechanical LSD and Continental tires offer so much grip that the rear tires feel like they are glued to the tarmac. You can enter corners at three-digit speeds and be guaranteed to come out facing the right way forward. In fact, even when accelerating hard from a stop there’s strangely no wheel spin, which brings me on to my next point.

Drive Mode

Being a “V”, there is a Sport mode, a Track mode, a lap timer, an in-built 0- 100km/h timer, even a G-Force meter to show you how hard you’re accelerating, but there’s just no drama and drama is key when it comes to such cars.

The exhaust note is dreadful, the steering refuses to relay any feedback, and while it is extremely fast, the CT4-V isn’t thrilling. Don’t get me wrong, it’s got all the kit you could ever want, from Brembo brakes to magnesium paddle shifters but it just lacks the excitement.

Brembo Brakes

I wish it spun its wheels every time I dug my foot into the accelerator pedal, I wish it slid around corners, I wish it scared me because those are the things that add character and bring a smile to an enthusiast’s face, but sadly the CT4-V is just so precise, so clinical, so predictable, that it sits right at the border of becoming boring.

Interior

Cadillac CT4v Back seats

When it comes to interior design, it does look and feel quite sporty with a thick leather-wrapped steering wheel, seats that go down low and offer plenty of adjustment, and a cabin that seems to be built around the driver. Sadly, the same cannot be said about the quality as there is a lot more hard plastic on the dashboard, door panels, and center console than you would expect to find in a premium car.

Much like its rivals, space in the back is tight in terms of both headroom and legroom, and that’s coming from someone who isn’t very tall. To make those in the back a little more comfortable, there are A/C vents, cupholders, and a 12V power outlet.

Features

Cadillac CT4V

Like most American cars, the CT4-V is crammed with features and so there’s everything from a sunroof and ventilated seats to an 8-inch infotainment screen and an 11-speaker Bose audio system. There’s also Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a wireless charger, but it is the Safety Seat that is likely to impress you the most.

The driver’s seat in the CT4-V is fitted with a vibrating mechanism that vibrates based on inputs from the various sensors and cameras around the car. If the car starts drifting to the right of the lane, the right side of the seat vibrates. If the car starts drifting to the left of the lane, the left side of the seat vibrates. If the car gets too close to the car in front, the seat vibrates. If it gets too close to the pavement while parking, the seat vibrates. Let’s just say, it gets the message across.

In terms of driving aids, Cadillac hasn’t held back either and so the CT4-V is fitted with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Automatic Emergency Braking, Collision Alert, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, essentially, it’s not far off from driving itself.

Exterior

Cadillac CT4

When it comes to the styling, the CT4 is far better looking than its rivals. It looks cool, it looks sporty, and since this is the “V”, model it gets LED headlamps with these distinct LED Daytime Running Lights that trickle down the sides, a blacked-out mesh grille, 18-inch alloys, blacked-out window lining, and a subtle yet important “V” badge on the door.

The sportiness continues in the back with a rear lip spoiler, tinted LED tail lamps, and quad exhausts (all of which work) and stick out of a neat diffuser. Boot space measures in at 303 liters, which may not seem like much, but it is in line with the competition and a fair bit more than what you get in the Audi S3.

Verdict

Cadillac CT4V

With a starting price of 134,000 Dirhams for the CT4 and 190,000 Dirhams for the CT4-V, the Cadillac looks better and offers better value for money than its German rivals. Its only shortcoming is that it isn’t as much fun to drive. So which one will you have? Let us know in the comments below.
