Earlier in the day, consumers had to live with the car’s infotainment system till the car is under their ownership. And, whenever there was an upgrade offered, the car had to be given to the dealer for the software installation. Well, that is not the case anymore – especially after the advent of Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto. Yes, the smartphone tech giants have entered the auto industry and their software offerings are being implemented in almost every car we know.

Hyundai is one of those automakers who is offering these services in their cars. In fact, the Korean make has gone a step further and given the option to the consumers to add Android Auto / Apple CarPlay to their existing 2015, 2016 and 2017 models without even visiting the dealer. All they have to do is visit the MyHyundai portal and they can get access to the software upgrade. This is great news and gives the consumer the freedom to do-it-yourself.

MyHyundai.com includes installation guides for the process. Soon, there will be an installation video available as well. The software will also be available at Hyundai dealerships for a fee starting next month (whether that includes GCC as well remains to be seen). The model lineup eligible includes 2015/2016 Sonata and Genesis, 2016 Elantra and Tucson and 2017 Santa Fe. The customer needs to remove the SD card from the infotainment system, insert it into a computer, download the software update and then reinsert it into the car. Then it is an automated process and voila!
